Introduction

The Continuous School Improvement Plan (CSIP) communicates our commitment to implement ongoing and comprehensive improvements school-wide. The written actions in the CSIP are aligned to the higher level goals developed in the Strategic Plan. At the end of the school year, we will communicate a progress report to the school community. Thank you for your continued support towards school improvement.

Pursue our core value of academic excellence

  • Securing Dual Accreditation by Spring 2019
Valley Christian School has been a candidate school for accreditation since spring 2015. In March 2019, this will come to a culmination when an outside accreditation committee will be visiting VCS. The committee is made up of five principals/superintendents of schools affiliated with the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI). They will provide a recommendation for school accreditation in spring 2019. By the end of the school year, we anticipate informing the school community that VCS has been recognized with dual accreditation through ACSI and AdvancED.

  • Reviewing and Updating Mathematics Curriculum Maps and Teacher Professional Development
At VCS, the review process of curriculum is conducted by our entire faculty. Time is provided throughout the year to evaluate and update our curriculum, standards, logical sequencing, vertical alignment, and curriculum resources. This year, we have adopted “Go Math” by Houghton Mifflin for grades K-8 (previously it was only used for grades K-2). We will be providing professional development this year to help teachers hone their skills in teaching math.

  • Implementing “CEL Framework”
VCS is committed to training teachers and implementing the Center For Educational Leadership’s “5 Dimensions of Teaching and Learning” framework through the University of Washington. This will help support teachers as they grow in their professional practice.

  • Implementing STEM Night in place of our Science Fair
Every year, our students work hard on their science fair projects, typically preparing months in advance. This year, we want to widen the scope of our science fair to include science, technology, engineering, and math. The focus of the night will be to encourage cross-content learning, increased hands on activities, greater student engagement, and parent involvement. Our STEM Night will be held on Thursday, March 28, 2019.

  • Launching additional co -curricular and extra -curricular clubs and activities for students
Fifth through eighth grade students are starting an Intro to Jazz Band. In the spring, fifth through eighth grades will have the opportunity to participate in after-school STEM Club, which includes learning and utilizing our newly purchased 3D printer. We will be launching Theater Club for second through eighth grade.

Increase Safety on Campus

In 2017, our school appointed a parent committee to address safety and security on our school campus. VCS staff created a “Keeping Campus Safe Initiative” using the recommendations of the committee. This past year, began implementing plans to upgrade our security and train our staff. Please drop by the school’s front office, if you would like to know more specifics about the “Keeping Campus Safe Initiative.”

Develop a greater funding base

This year we will continue to seek ways to grow our fundraising opportunities so that we can better serve our students and families. We desire our fundraising to support school initiatives, and academic programs, as well as tuition assistance.

Thank you for entrusting us with your children!

We are grateful to partner with you to provide an academically excellent, Christ-centered education. We look forward to a successful school year as we see our students grow and flourish at Valley Christian School.
