Hot Lunch Program
Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20
Valley Christian School’s lunch program is part of a greater commitment to promote students towards respecting and stewarding their own bodies through good nutrition, active lifestyle, and, respecting the earth as God’s creation. The entire school environment is focused on positively influencing students’ beliefs and habits to promote health and wellness, good nutrition and regular physical activity. School staff shall be encouraged to model healthy eating and physical activity as a valuable part of daily life. Finally, we want to lead the way in helping the City of Auburn attain Blue Ribbon status as “Healthiest City in Washington.” Our nutritional standards is one way to teach our students how to promote healthy behaviors that prepare them for life.
Lunch Program
We serve a hot lunch daily on-site. Lunch is 20 minutes in duration. We offer a variety of age-appropriate, appealing foods and beverages. Breakfast cereal that parents purchase for their child during childcare hours must have five grams of sugar or less.
As part of our Green School Initiative, we encourage parents to pack a waste free lunch.
Classroom Food and Snacks
Each classroom teacher provides an appropriate time for students to eat a snack (10-15 minutes in duration). We encourage parents to pack snacks/foods that follow the USDA Nutritional Standards. Teachers are required to offer non-food items as classroom rewards. Drinking fountains with fresh water are available during the school day and students are encouraged to bring water bottles to be re-filled.
